The term "carpet" simply means
a hand knotted rug, produced in many areas in the world. The most
famous carpets in the world are made in Iran (formerly Persia),
and the technology of carpet-making has spread to south-east Europe
via Turkey, North Africa, The Caucasus, Afghanistan, Baluchistan
(West Pakistan), Kashmir, parts of India, Turkmenistan and China.
Oriental carpets are mainly original since there are no "imitations".
They are handmade and therefore individual. It should be appreciated
that oriental carpets are not just articles for use, but often
works of art on a high plane, fascinating in their richness of
design symbolism, imagination and delight in color.
